Thommasaht Nhouyvanisvong is a classical guitarist based in Greensboro, NC. As a performer and educator he hopes to bring more people into the music making process.
Raised in North Carolina, rich in a variety of musical traditions, Thommasaht was initially self-taught. At the age of 14, he began formal lessons at Weaver Academy for the Performing and Visual Arts with Patrick Lui. He continued his studies as a Hayes Young Artist Scholar at Appalachian State University completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Performance under Douglas James and Adam Kossler. Thommasaht also holds a Master of Music Performance from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee under the instruction and mentorship of Rene Izquierdo. Thommasaht holds competition prizes from the Appalachian GuitarFest as well as the Southern Guitar Festival. Hoping to broaden the perception of the nylon string “classic” guitar, Thommasaht performs a variety of styles in addition to his own arrangements. He hopes to further solidify the guitar’s role in the concert hall as well as bring to light the expressive quality of the instrument. Thommasaht plays an instrument made by luthier Douglas Ching. |
